Begin playing in a quiet environment with minimal distractions, such as your kitchen. Start by warming up your puppy with the clicker and tossing a few pieces of kibble. Once your puppy is focused on you, throw a piece of kibble away or wait for them to become distracted. Say your puppy's name, quickly followed by the clicker sound, and reward them with kibble from your hand. Use the clicker after saying their name, even if they don't look at you, to associate their name with the clicker response. After several repetitions, you should notice your puppy beginning to turn their attention toward you when you call their name, before you have a chance to click. Practice in slightly more challenging environments and build success slowly.
